2019 Canadian Masters Championships and Special Awards

Championnats canadiens Maîtres 2019 Prix Spéciaux

Thorin Gault, News Editor

The 2019 Canadian Masters Weightlifting Championship hummed along like an efficient machine as 150 lifters from nine provinces competed over two days. There was still time to celebrate a few of our members as there were two new Hall of Fame inductees and a lifetime achievement award presented.

Quebec’s Bezhad Allahyari was inducted into the Canadian Masters Hall of Fame with 113 points. Bezhad has accumulated eight national titles and has also competed in both the Pan Am and World Championships.

Christine Walt of Ontario also entered the Canadian Masters Hall of Fame with 113 points. In addition to many Canadian and Pan American titles, Christine has also set numerous Canadian Masters records.

Keeping it in the family, this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Bob Walt. The lifetime achievement award is reserved for individuals who have provided support and dedication to masters weightlifting and sharing a passion for the sport.

Bob’s prowess as a lifter cannot be denied as a many time national and Pan American Champion. He has also set many Canadian Masters records over his decades of participation. Bob is perhaps best known for being a coach who is always willing to help, regardless of where the lifter is from. In addition to his widely sought-after technical expertise, Bob brings an energy to the warm-up room that is second to none.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients and thank you for your contributions to the sport of Masters weightlifting.
